Hilda P. Bickel, 93, of Altoona died Saturday evening August 19, 2023, at UPMC Altoona.
She was born July 30, 1930, in Bellefonte, a daughter of the late Samuel Edward and Pearl Suzanna (Colpetzer) Lucas. She married William David Bickel on April 21, 1950, in Buffalo Run, Bellefonte, PA. He preceded her in death March 31, 1993.
Surviving are three children, daughter Judith K. Gisewhite (Larry R.) of Milroy; son Jeffrey L. Bickel of Duncansville; daughter Cheryl A. Bickel of Altoona; five grandchildren: Tabitha Fellabaum (Scott), Corinda Norris (Richard), David Bickel, Jennifer Bickel, and Kelly Bickel; nine great grandchildren; a sister Ruth A. Snyder (Donald) of New York; daughter-in-law Kathy A. Bickel of Altoona; and special persons and sisters-in-law Jane Lucas of Lemont, and Eileen Bickel of Altoona.
Hilda was preceded in death by a son William Edward Bickel; siblings: Hazel Smeltzer, John Lucas, Merle Lucas, Florence Lucas, Ernest Lucas, and Robert Lucas; and a daughter-in-law Cindy Bickel.
Mrs. Bickel was a member of Second Avenue Global Methodist Church, Altoona.
She was, before her marriage to Bill, employed as a house cleaner and she was also employed as a trimmer for Tritex. Following her marriage, she primarily became a homemaker, but occasionally served a baby-sitter for the Joel Cohen family.
Hilda enjoyed crocheting, knitting, and needlepoint.
She was a member of the Blair/Cambria Association for the Blind; a member of the former Mercy Hospital Auxiliary; and a current member of Senior Life, and the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Friends will be received from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Friday August 25, 2023, at Second Avenue Global Methodist Church, 130 Second Avenue, Altoona where a funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. with Pastor Brian Sandell officiating.
Interment will be made at Alto Reste Park Cemetery.
