Jack R. Whitman, 76 of Juniata, Altoona died Thursday evening March 30, 2023, at UPMC Altoona.
He was born January 19, 1947, in Pottstown a son of the late Charles R. and Helen M. (Wogan) Whitman. He married Patricia M. Fogal on June 11, 1965, in Maryland.
Surviving are his wife, Patricia; four children, son Terry R. Whitman (Lisa) of Pittsburgh, daughter Patricia M. Clark (Daniel) of State College, son Jerry L. Whitman (Tammy) of Altoona, daughter Sandy J. Hauser (Mike) of Altoona; ten grandchildren, Lyndsey, Danielle, Crystal, Shawn, Kayla, Jessica, Melissa, Tiffany, Larry, and Brandy; and twenty-two great grandchildren, Nico, Enzo, Dominik, Exavier, Zander, Maddy, Logan, Cyrus, Savannah, Jaelyn, Tristan, Kadyn, Kyler, Jayla, Lyla, Sophia, Bentley, Ryleigh, Jaxson, Everleigh, Jordan, and Gabe.
Jack was preceded in death by a great granddaughter, McKenzie.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving during the Vietnam War attaining the rank of Ensign.
Mr. Whitman was formerly employed as an auto mechanic at various local locations and he also worked as a machinist for North American Communications.
Jack was a member of the Juniata VFW (Fort Apache) and the Duncansville VFW. He was a member of the former Frohsinn Singing Society.
He enjoyed NASCAR, especially following Kyle Busch.
Friends will be received from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday April 3, 2023, and 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Tuesday April 4, 2023, at Myers-Somers Funeral Home, Inc., 501 Sixth Avenue, Altoona where a funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday with Rev. Matthew Hornberger officiating. Interment will be made at Blair Memorial Park, Bellwood.
