Jacqueline J. “Jackie” (Lehman) Ross, 93 of Altoona died early Saturday morning November 18, 2023, at Garvey Manor Nursing Home, Hollidaysburg.

She was born May 14, 1930, in Turtle Creek, a daughter of the late Merrill G. and Mildred E. (Blumenschein) Lehman. She married Gene G. Ross on May 22, 1951, in Altoona. He preceded her in death May 3, 2017.

Surviving are four children, son, David Ross (Michelle) of Gibsonia, and son, Thomas Ross (Debra) of Pinecroft; and daughter, Sharon Loomis (Michael) of Altoona, daughter, Sue Ellen Rabish (Jeff) of Gallitzin, and a daughter-in-law, Becky Wertman Ross.

Jackie was preceded in death by a son, Stephen Ross, and four siblings, Lois R. Strunk, Michael M. Lehman, Doris L. Brennecke, and Richard L. Lehman. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Jacqueline grew up on a farm in Amaranth, where she developed her love of birds, wildlife, and flowers, but she spent most of her adult life residing in Greenwood from 1951 to 2016 with Gene and her children.

Mrs. Ross attended Second Avenue Global Methodist Church, Altoona for over 70 years where she was a member of the choir, taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, led Bible studies, and served as a lay minister for nearly five years. Her faith was very important to her, she read her Bible daily and could quote scripture from memory.

Jacqueline was a 1948 graduate of Altoona High School, and then attended classes at Penn State University.

Following graduation, she was employed by Gables bookstore, and then the Bookstore in the former Station Mall. She had also been employed as a librarian at Roosevelt Junior High School and in a similar capacity at the Altoona Area Public Library.

She was a longtime member of the former Horseshoe Drifters Club. She loved holding tea parties with her grandchildren, whom she loved dearly and greatly enjoyed having them visit on holidays.

Jackie and Gene enjoyed camping and traveling. She often told stories of their trip cross country to Yellowstone National Park, their trip to Hawaii to visit their niece, her trip to Gatlinburg, and multiple trips to Florida with her sister, Lois.
