James Marquette Obituary

            James W. “Jim” Marquette, 83, of Altoona died Thursday afternoon March 9, 2023, at his residence.

            He was born January 31, 1940, in Altoona a son of the late James H. and Adelaide E. (Clemens) Marquette. He married Doris E. Stitt on August 13, 1962, in Winchester, VA.

            Surviving are his wife, Doris; two children, daughter Lissa A. Huber of Altoona, son James H. Marquette, II of Patton; two grandchildren, Elizabeth A. Marquette (Ricky Courtot) of Frederick, MD, and James W. Marquette, II serving on active duty with the U.S. Navy; and a nephew, Craig Lang of New Haven, CT.

            Mr. Marquette was a 1957 graduate of Altoona High School.

            He was a United States Air Force veteran serving during the Vietnam War attaining the rank of Airman First Class.

            Jim retired as a machinist from PPG Industries following over 34 years’ service.

            He enjoyed trout fishing, pheasant and deer hunting, coaching baseball for over 18 years, sprint car racing, where he worked on the pit crew, and Jim also was an avid Penn State football fan.

            He was a member of the Juniata VFW (Ft. Apache).

            At the request of the deceased there will be no viewing or funeral services.
