Janet Louise Porter

Janet "Jan" Louise (Walter) Porter, 77, of Altoona, was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She went to be with the Lord, Sunday, Septermber 5, 2021, at home after an extended illness.

She was born on November 2, 1943 in San Pedro, California, to the late Howard and Lois (Olewine) Walter Shoenberger. She had three siblings: Howard (Marlene) Walter of York Springs, Lee (Joan) Walter of Waterbury, CT, Nancy (Walter) Shade of Altoona.

Jan was preceded in death by a sister, Sharon (Walter) Fortier.

She married the love of her life, Robert "Bob" Porter, on June 29, 1963. Due to Bob's long time military service, they lived in many different places, but settled in Altoona. Together, they raised four children: Jeffrey (Renae) of Winter Have, FL, Robert (Laurie) of Tyrone, Sean (Ingrid) of Nashville, TN, and Tosha of Altoona. 

Jan had 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She will be remembered for her devotion to Jesus, love for her family, friends who came part of her family, music, reading, and puzzles.

Thank you to Kim Sellers and Pinnacle Palliative Care for the excellent service provided for the family as we kept Jan at home during her illness. A special thank you to Frankie Gildea and Holly Irish who went above and beyond to meet Janet's medical needs. 

Friends will be received on Thursday, September 9, 2021 from 6 p.m. until the 7 p.m. funeral service at Myers-Somers Funeral Home, 501 Sixth Avenue, Altoona, PA 16601 with Minister Donna Porter officiating.

In lie of flowers, contributions may be made to Covenant Community Church, 1832 North Tuckahoe Street, Bellwood, PA 16617.
