Joanne Marie “Jodi” Saunders, 71, Altoona, passed away Monday, February 22, 2021, at UPMC Altoona.
She was born in Altoona on September 4, 1949, the daughter of the late John Lawrence Slage and Catherine Bernadette Barclay and stepfather, William Coble.
Surviving are her son, William Michael Nazarkewich and wife, Ursula, in Wisconsin; three grandchildren: Alexander Nazarkewich and wife, Maria, in Wyoming, Lea Rose Schubert and husband, Dominic, of Dusseldorf, Germany and William Jonah Nazarkewich in Wisconsin; one great-grandson, Felix Julian Nazarkewich; numerous nieces and nephews; extended family members; and many good friends.
She was preceded in death by her sisters.
Mrs. Saunders was a 1967 graduate of Hialeah High School in Florida. She worked as a waitress for multiple restaurants.
Jodi enjoyed playing cards, especially Rummy, putting together puzzles and loved John Wayne. In her early years, she was an avid movie-goer and she liked to drive fast. She was without question, the "fun" aunt.
A private gathering for friends and family will be held. Inurnment will be in Oakridge Cemetery. Arrangements are by Myers-Somers Funeral Home, Inc., 501 Sixth Avenue, Altoona.
