John Joseph Della

John Joseph “Cat in the Hat” Della, 78, of Altoona, died Sunday, July 11,2021, after a courageous battle with colon cancer.

He was born July 20, 1942, in Altoona, a son of the late John and Elizabeth (Closson) Della. On his birthday, July 20, 1986, he married Doris Jean Green at St. John’s Catholic Church, Lakemont.

Surviving are his wife, Doris Della; four children: Larry Eugene (Beth) of Altoona, Frances Ann in South Carolina, Tina Marie of Altoona and Roman Anthony (Michelle) of Altoona; five grandchildren: Zachariah, Samantha, Katharine, Vincent and Mary Elena; and two brothers: Frank Della (Geri) in Texas and David Della of Philadelphia.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy Della.

Mr. Della was the owner of Della Trucking for more than 50 years. John attended Altoona High School and served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Norfolk. He was a member of the Unter Uns.

John was the proud owner of seven new Peterbilt trucks. He also was a great hunter and fisherman. John enjoyed a full life and did things his way.

At the request of the deceased, there will be no viewing or funeral service.
