John Daniel Plouse, Jr.

John Daniel Plouse, Jr., 63, Altoona, passed away Wednesday, March 3, 2021, after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born in Altoona on April 17, 1957, the son of John Daniel, Sr. and Jolanda Gene (Heckert) Plouse. On June 16, 2000, he married Rebecca Christine “Beckey” Haigh in Winchester, Va.

Surviving are his wife, Beckey Plouse; four children: Michelle T. Haigh, Courtney R. Freidenbloom and husband, Joe, and Martin P. Haigh and wife, Samantha, all of Altoona, and Andrea M. Plouse of New Orleans, La.; 11 grandchildren: Nicholas (Kate), Lukas, Ethan, Cody, Elijah, Paige, Piper, Morgan, Memphis, Cashton and Osiris; and one great-grandson, Theo.

Mr. Plouse was a 1975 graduate of Altoona Area High School. John worked for the City of Altoona for over 35 years, retiring in 2020 as Chief Building Code Officer. He also worked part-time as a wedding photographer.

He was a member of Logan Lodge No. 490, F. & A.M.; Valley of Altoona, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite bodies; and the Jaffa Shrine where he was a member and driver for the Jaffa Shrine Concert Band.

John was an avid golfer and a fireworks enthusiast, but he was most proud of his grandchildren. His larger-than-life personality will be forever missed.

A Masonic funeral service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are by Myers-Somers Funeral Home, Inc., 501 Sixth Avenue, Altoona.
