John H. Rhine

            John H. “Silly Pap” Rhine, 83 of Altoona died Friday evening February 22, 2019 at his residence.

            He was born June 27, 1935 in Huntingdon a son of the late George H. and Ruth M. (Blair) Rhine. He married Judith A. Pry on September 24, 1960 at Bethany Lutheran Church, Altoona.

            Surviving are his wife, Judy; five children, daughter Terri A. McGilvray; daughter Penny J. Miller and her husband James; son Kevin Rhine; daughter Wendy S. Corle and her husband Gary; son Scott A. Rhine all of Altoona; sixteen grandchildren, Joshua Albright, Jessica Delancey, Christopher Blyler, Alan Rhine, Ashley Miller, Tucker McGilvray, Jenna Faulkner, Adam Corle, Dylan McGilvray, Zach Folcarelli, Justus Miller, Josh Miller, Kevin Miller, Devin Miller, Jeremy Rhine and Jordan Miller; eight great grandchildren, Gavin Albright, Emma Delancey, Gracie Albright, Makenzie Blyler, Ava Delancey, Kassidy Blyler, Peyton Faulkner and Kaden Blyler; brother Melvin Rhine and his wife Judith of Tyrone; and sister-in-law Edie Ann Frederick and her husband John of Altoona.

            John was preceded in death by a sister, Annie Weaver.

            Mr. Rhine retired from the maintenance department of Blair County in 2000 after fifteen years’ service. He had also been employed as a bartender at Herman’s Hotel for numerous years.

            He was a Pennsylvania National Guard veteran.

            John enjoyed bowling, fishing, hunting, NASCAR racing especially Dale Earnhardt, Pittsburgh sports including the Pirates, Steelers and Penguins and all Tyrone sports. He also enjoyed going to the cottage at Newton-Hamilton.

            He was a life member of the Bavarian Aid Society.

            Friends will be received from 4-6 p.m. Tuesday February 26, 2019 at Myers-Somers Funeral Home, Inc., 501 Sixth Avenue, Altoona where a funeral service will be held at 6:00 p.m. with Pastor Duane Coy officiating. Interment will be made at Alto Reste Park Cemetery.

            In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to the funeral home to help with expenses.
