Joyce M. (Menke) Burns

Joyce M. Burns, 84, formerly of Altoona, died Friday December 14, 2018 in Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point, Hudson Florida.

            She was born June 4, 1934 in Jacob’s Prairie, MN a daughter of the late Clarence and Loretta (Lither) Menke. She married Wilbur Grant “Whitey” Burns on July 31, 1953 in Silver Spring, MD. He preceded her in death January 13, 2013.

            Surviving are six children, son Paul C. Burns of Hudson, FL; daughter Dawn M. O’Connor (Sean) of Altoona; daughter Sharon L. Spicer of Altoona; daughter Lorrie A. Litzinger (Mike Redinger) of Altoona; daughter Karen G. Sanders (Howard Dashem) of Centre Hall; son Keith A. Burns (Tina) of Hudson, FL; sixteen grandchildren; thirty-five great grandchildren; and five great great grandchildren; brother Al Menke of Iowa; sister Carol Spoden of St. Cloud, MN; sister Kaye Nutz of Longville, MN; and brother Gary Menke of Cold Spring, MN.

            Joyce was preceded in death by a granddaughter Danyelle Dean; two sons-in-law Scott Sanders and Charles Spicer; a brother Bob Menke and a sister Carol Ann.

            Mrs. Burns was a former member of Simpson-Temple United Parish.

            She was a graduate of St. Boniface High School, Cold Spring, MN.

            Joyce retired as a coffee hostess from Sheetz.

            She enjoyed camping and was a member of the Swiss Club Ladies Auxiliary.

            Friends will be received from 1-4 p.m. Saturday December 22, 2018 at Myers-Somers Funeral Home, Inc., Altoona where a funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m.
