Larry Chester Burk, 75, of Altoona, formerly of Hollidaysburg, died early Tuesday morning January 10, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born April 24, 1947, in Altoona a son of the late Harry Chester and Catherine Mary (Barrett) Burk. He married Elaine M. Wolfe on July 27, 1974, in Lakemont.
Surviving are his wife Elaine; their daughter, Sharon Ann Burk McCleave of Altoona; five siblings, brother Joseph Burk (Shirley), brother Charles Burk (Shirley), sister Janet (Burk) Kilpatrick, sister Joyce (Burk) Carper, and sister Jeannie (Burk) Rightnour (Kenneth).
Larry was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Wilson Carper.
Mr. Burk was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Altoona.
He was a 1965 graduate of Hollidaysburg Area High School.
Larry was a U.S. Navy veteran serving during the Vietnam Conflict as a Hospital Corpsman Third Class where he was wounded in action and received the Purple Heart.
He retired as a cutter from Small Tube Products, Duncansville after many years’ service. Previously, Larry had been employed as an Emergency Medical Technician by AMED.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trap shooting, riding his ATV, camping, boating, riding his motorcycle, crocheting, and casino trips.
Larry was a member of the Pennsylvania Game Commission, and he also was a member of the Blair County Game, Fish and Forestry Association.
Friends will be received from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday January 18, 2023, at Myers-Somers Funeral Home, Inc., 501 Sixth Avenue, Altoona where a vigil service for the deceased will be held.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Thursday January 19, 2023, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Altoona with Rev. Brian Norris officiating. Committal rites will be held at Calvary Cemetery, Altoona where full military honors will be accorded.
