Lelia A. “Lil” Johnson, 87 of Ashville, formerly of Altoona died peacefully early June 13, 2023, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born November 23, 1935, in Altoona, a daughter of the late Harold E. and Edna V. (Rosenberger) Zimmers. She married Edward L. Johnson on September 17, 1962, in Winchester, VA. He preceded her in death October 4, 1995.
Surviving are four children, son Clifford D. Johnson (Barbara) of Altoona, daughter Lynette M. Freed (Doug) of Coatesville, daughter Kristine D. Weakland (Robert) of Ashville, and daughter Jennifer A. Harris (Jason) of Richmond, VA; eight grandchildren, Daniel Cobler (Angela), Adam Johnson (Kellie), Nicholas Johnson (Veronica), Jacqueline Lucas (Austin), Kelsey Maurer (Mitchell), Madison Weakland (Austin), Brandon Weakland (Jen), and Cody Weakland (Michelle); seven great grandchildren; and many special cousins, nieces and a nephew who she loved dearly.
Lil was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Zimmers.
Mrs. Johnson was a member of Fourth Street Church of God, Altoona.
She was a 1953 graduate of Altoona High School: then following a 1956 graduate of the Altoona Hospital School of Nursing.
Lil was employed as a registered nurse at the Altoona Hospital, then following, by Mercy Hospital, finally retiring from the former Valley View Nursing Home as a charge nurse in 1994 following many years of service.
She enjoyed traveling with her family, playing Bingo, bowling, and watching “The Price is Right”.
She was an active alumnus of the Altoona Hospital School of Nursing, and she was also a member of the Bavarian Aid Society.
There will be no viewing.
A private funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family with Pastor Matthew Hornberger officiating.
Interment will be made at Blair Memorial Park, Bellwood.
