M. Arlene McDowell

            M. Arlene McDowell, 95, of Hollidaysburg passed away Monday morning December 5, 2022, at Garvey Manor Nursing Home.

            She was born in Altoona a daughter of the late John L. and Bertha Mae (Rodenizer) Mosser. She married Robert S. “Bob” McDowell on March 13, 1948. He preceded her in death September 13, 1991.

            Surviving are two daughters, Vicky McDowell of Chevy Chase, MD, and Rebecca Heisler (Alan) of Hollidaysburg; two grandchildren, Nicole Augustine (Melissa) of Lewistown, and Derek Heisler (Rachel) of Lewistown. Arlene is also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews, including a special great niece, Lorrie Blackie.

            She was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Young, and Dorothy Blackie, and by a brother, Glenn Mosser.

            Mrs. McDowell was a member of First Church of Christ, Juniata Gap where she belonged to the Kingdom Builders Sunday School class.

            She was a member of Jobel Court, #11, L.O.S.N.A.

             Arlene enjoyed many years of golfing and reading (especially the Bible). She, more than anything, enjoyed spending time with her family.

            The family wishes to thank the nuns and staff of Garvey Manor for the excellent care they provided Arlene.

            Friends will be received from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (noon) Monday December 12, 2022, at Myers-Somers Funeral Home, Inc, 501 Sixth Avenue, Altoona where a memorial service will be held at noon with Pastor John Collins officiating. Interment will be made at Blair Memorial Park, Bellwood.

            In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations please be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959 or to the Central Pennsylvania Humane Society, 1837 East Pleasant Valley Boulevard, Altoona, PA 16602.
