Martha J. "Marty" (Riley) Painter

            Martha J. “Marty” Painter, 92 of Altoona died early Friday morning September 25, 2020 at her residence.

            She was born May 9, 1928 in Altoona a daughter of the late Samuel Ellis and Bertha May (Yingling) Riley. She married Wallace C. Painter on August 29, 1946 in Cumberland, MD. He preceded her in death February 6, 1989.

            Surviving are five children, son Wallace R. Painter (Susan) of Hollidaysburg; daughter Sherry A. Wise (Roger) of Duncansville; daughter Martha J. Shiffler (Stephen) of Homers Gap; daughter Cindy L. Flaherty of Altoona; son Steven N. Painter at home; six grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter; and a sister, Alma Mentzer of Cumming, GA.

            Martha was preceded in death by brothers, Ellis, Jamie, Bernard and Ralph Riley and sisters, Willoughby Chisko and Lorna Woomer and a son-in-law, John Flaherty.

            Mrs. Painter was a member of First United Methodist Church, Hollidaysburg and was previously a member of the former Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church, Altoona where she sang in the choir.

            She retired as a nurses aid from the former Valley View Home following twenty years’ service.

            Martha graduated from the Mercy Hospital Nurses Aid training program in 1966 and she was also a Senior Companion with Blair Senior Services for ten years.

            She enjoyed reading, singing and visiting friends.

            Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.

            Interment will be made at Alto Reste Park.
