Mary Elizabeth Nevel

            Mary E. Nevel, 85, formerly of Juniata, Altoona passed away Monday morning November 29, 2021, at The Village at Morrisons Cove, Martinsburg.

            She was born October 31, 1936 in Tyrone a daughter of the late Guy David and Mary Myrtle Kathren (Cliber) Friley Burgoon.

            She married Stanley Jacob “Jake” Nevel on September 18, 1953. He preceded her in death August 4, 2021.

            Surviving are three children: Debra K. Walker and husband, Tom, of Spring Mills; Marvin J. Nevel and wife, Lee, and Patty J. Swartz and husband, Fred all of Altoona; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brother Harry Friley of Altoona; sister Jean Bindley of Oregon; brother Jack Irvine; and numerous family extended family members.

            Mary was preceded in death by four brothers, Ralph Friley, Guy David Friley, Jr., Teddy Friley, and Robert Irvine; and two sisters, Helen Boggs, and Edna Nagle.

            Mrs. Nevel was a member of First Church of Christ, Juniata Gap where she served as a Sunday School teacher for the nursery, and she was currently attending New Life Church.

            She was formerly employed by D & M Linen and became a homemaker when her family began. She also occasionally cleaned homes in the Altoona area.

            Mary loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all.

            She enjoyed crafts, painting and baking her famous chocolate cake which was enjoyed by her entire family.

            A private viewing and funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family.

            Interment will be made at Blair Memorial Park, Bellwood.
