Mary Schnaubelt-Grove Obituary

            Mary Catherine “Grammie” Schnaubelt-Grove, 81, of Altoona died Sunday evening February 13, 2022, surrounded by her loving family.

            She was born November 20, 1940, in Altoona a daughter of the late Joseph A. and Margaret M. (McIntire) Schnaubelt. She married Joseph Hanley Grove on November 26, 1966, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Altoona. He preceded her in death May 31, 2014.

            Surviving are three children, Mary-Margaret (Grove) Morning and husband Richard of Altoona; Joseph A. Grove and wife Julie of Raleigh, NC; and Jennifer M. (Grove) O'Dea and husband Tim of Eldersburg, MD; nine grandchildren, Sasha Morning, Richard Morning, Jr., Mary-Catherine Morning, Amelia Morning, Samuel Grove, Sydney Grove, Caitlin O'Dea, Emma O'Dea and Henry O'Dea; one great grandson, expected in April; and a sister Margaret L. Bratton of Blairsville.

            She was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard L. Schnaubelt, and Father Joseph C. Schnaubelt, OSA.

            Mary was devout in her Catholic faith all her life. She was member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Altoona where she sang in the choir, and was a very active member of the Legion of Mary.

            She was a 1958 graduate of Altoona Catholic High School.

            Mary retired from the local office of the Pennsylvania Department of Welfare and for eighteen years, along with her husband, was the co-owner of Tasty Taco, Altoona which they founded in 1977.

            She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren, and became the Matriarch of the family.

            She was also a volunteer at the St. Vincent DePaul Society. Mary was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR).

            Friends will be received from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday February 17, 2022, at Myers-Somers Funeral Home, Inc., 501 Sixth Avenue, Altoona where a vigil service for the deceased will be held.

            A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Friday February 18, 2022, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Altoona with Rev. Lubomir J. Strecok officiating.

           Committal rites will be held at Calvary Cemetery, Altoona.

            In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations please be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 1405 Fifth Avenue, Altoona, PA 16602.
