Mary Evelyn (Misko) Walter, 74, of Altoona, Pennsylvania passed away this week after an extended illness.
Mary loved her family more than anything, especially her three children, Brian, Matt, and Susan.
She was a caregiver at heart, and she delighted in finding ways to help others and make life more fun for everyone around her. All of her nieces and nephews adored her, and her sister, Sue Machin of Baltimore, was Mary’s best friend and partner in crime. If Sue was Mary’s accomplice, her husband Charles was her foil. As different as two people can be, Mary and Charlie made it work. They raised wonderful kids and built a good life together. Charlie’s gentle care of Mary in her later years was inspiring and demonstrated the depth of their love for one another. Mary loved playing bocce and Pepsi (in a bottle, not a can, thank you). She played in the local bocce league at the Buccinese Society for years. She hosted family holidays and parties, helped neighbors and strangers alike whenever she could, and was just plain “good people.” She will be dearly missed.
Mary is survived by her husband Charles Walter of Altoona, her sons, Brian Walter of Pflugerville, TX, and Matthew Walter of Baltimore, her daughter Susan Walter of Altoona, and her siblings Sue Machin of Baltimore and Paul Misko of Altoona, as well as three beloved grandchildren and two more on the way. She was preceded in death by her parents, Benedict Paul Misko and Evelyn (Hobbs) Misko, and her baby brother Joe Misko.
Friends will be received from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday October 14, 2023, at Myers-Somers Funeral Home, Inc. 501 Sixth Avenue, Altoona where a funeral service outside of mass will be held at 5:30 p.m. with Rev. Frank Scornaienchi officiating.
