Mitchell James O'Rourke

            Mitchell James “Mitch” O’Rourke, 94, Altoona, died unexpectedly Wednesday, March 31, 2021, at Maybrook Hills Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center, Altoona.

            He was born in Altoona on July 21, 1926, the son of the late Michael and Myrtle V. (Hoagland) Rourke.

            Preceding him in death is his wife of 62 years, Shirley Jane (Gleichert) O’Rourke and their son, Frederick James O’Rourke.

            Surviving are his daughter, Deborah Straub and husband, Bill, of Pittsburgh; five grandchildren: Lacy, Michael, Jason, Jennifer and Elizabeth; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great granddaughter.

            Mr. O’Rourke was a graduate of Altoona High School. He served in the Merchant Marines during World War II.

            Mitchell was a member of Logan Valley Baptist Church, Bellwood, where he served on various boards. He also was a volunteer at Altoona Hospital and the Meals on Wheels program.

            A private service will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment was made at Logan Valley Cemetery, Bellwood.
