N. Jean Lane, 79, of Altoona died peacefully in her sleep Thursday morning February 4, 2021, following an extended illness.
She was born May 10, 1941 in Indianola, PA a daughter of the late John and Anna (Metal) Provosnick. She married Jim Lane on June 19, 1965 in Springdale, PA. They shared 55 wonderful years together as husband and wife.
Surviving are her husband, Jim; a daughter, Jill Lane; a son Jeff Lane (Tracey); she was “Mammy” to granddaughters Julia and Taylor Lane, all of Altoona; and a brother, John Provosnick, of Oregon.
Jean was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Ann Pastor and Joan E. Provosnick.
She was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church.
Jean retired as a Business Education teacher from Altoona Area High School in 2002 after 35 years’ service.
A friend to all, Jean was a long-time member of the Women’s Club of Altoona and the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees, where she served as secretary for many years.
Her happiest moments were watching her granddaughters play soccer and basketball at AAHS. Jean was a huge fan of Altoona High sports and loved, for over 20 years, watching the Pittsburgh Pirates during spring training. She was proud to have collected hundreds of baseballs and spring training cards, as well as having over 50 Hall of Fame signatures. A talented cook and baker, Jean’s chocolate chip cookies were “the best”. She also loved working the Altoona Curve games for the Women’s Club of Altoona.
Friends will be received from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday February 9, 2021 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 5514 Roselawn Ave., Altoona where a vigil service for the deceased will be held. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. February 10, 2021 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church with Rev. Brian Saylor officiating.
