Paul David “June” Keefer, Sr., 76 of Altoona died Tuesday morning July 4, 2023.
He was born February 16, 1947, in Altoona, a son of the late Beauford Keefer and Alice (Charles) Schneider. He married Suzanne L. Burks on July 23, 1966, in Fayetteville, NC.
Surviving are his wife, Susie; three children, daughter Amy Jo Marriott (David) of Gettysburg, Paul David Keefer, Jr. of Altoona, and Stephen Charles Keefer of State College; four grandchildren, Joshua Edward Keefer, Cristina Janelle “CJ” Doderick (Steve), Noah Michael Keefer, and Timothy Levi Keefer; four great grandchildren, Nevaeh Keefer, Elijah Keefer, Landon Keefer, and Harley Doderick; a sister, Gwendolyn “Wink” Steinbrunner (Kent) of Harrisburg; and numerous other extended family members.
June was preceded in death by four siblings: Gary “Luke” Keefer, Buford “Tine” Keefer, Mary “Lovey” Barley, and Donald “Duck” Keefer.
He was a 1965 graduate of Altoona High School.
He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Vietnam War from January 1966 to January 1972 attaining the rank of Specialist 5.
June retired as a construction foreman following 25 years’ service.
He enjoyed watching his grandchildren play baseball and other sports. He was an avid baseball fan, as a coach, a player, and a fan. He also enjoyed collecting baseball cards, hunting, and watching old western movies.
He was a member of the Altoona Sportsmen’s Club.
Friends will be received from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Saturday July 15, 2023, at Myers-Somers Funeral Home, Inc., 501 Sixth Avenue, Altoona where a funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions please be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
