Phyllis Elaine Shetrom, 81, of Altoona, died early Sunday morning, April 17, 2022, at her residence surrounded by her loving family.
Born on December 18, 1940, in Altoona, daughter of the late James Howard and Gladys Faye (Gibson) Rutherford. On October 7, 1961, she married the late James William Shetrom, Jr., at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Sinking Valley. After sharing 46 wedded years together, he preceded her in death on January 8, 2007.
Surviving are three daughters: Peggy Sue Carothers (Brian) of Altoona, Jamie Beth Harshbarger (Steven) of Altoona, and Janelle Marie Chilcote (Christian) of Hollidaysburg; 8 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren, with one more on the way; a brother: Randy S. Rutherford of Altoona; her companion: Bill Kennedy; and numerous extended family members and friends.
Phyllis was preceded in death by three siblings: Ronald Rutherford, Maureen Crust, and Ricky Rutherford.
She was a 1958 graduate of Altoona High School. She was employed for many years as an administrative assistant and optometrist technician.
Phyllis enjoyed bowling, dancing, music, but most of all loved spending time with her grandchildren and family.
As per the request of the deceased, there will be no viewing or public services.
A private interment will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery, Altoona.
