Richard T. “Dick” Hatch, 84, of Hollidaysburg, died peacefully at home, Saturday evening, January 22, 2022, surrounded by his family.
He was born March 2, 1937, in Altoona a son of the late Beverly G. and Erma Grace (McAteer) Hatch. He married his high school sweetheart, Emilie L. Sharbaugh, on December 14, 1956 in Mount Clair, NJ.
Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Emilie; three children, Lisa Winrick (John), Jerry (Sherry), and Thomas (Jeannie) Hatch; six grandchildren, John (René), Mattthew, Michael Winrick, Jessica (Leigh-Ann Wright), Joshua (William Slater), and Jacob Hatch; one great-granddaughter, Devyn “Jelly Bean” Winrick; five siblings, Tim Hatch (Debbie), Rose Everhart (Bob), Kathy Lechner, Connie Cook (Doug), Mary Jane Mincin (Jim); two sisters-in-law, Judy and Anna Mae Hatch; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, Richard P. Hatch; twelve siblings, William, Earl, Beverly “Bo,” Eugene, Louis, Mike, Pat, Kenny Hatch, Madeline Burns, Bernadine Blodgett, Irma Grace Strickland, and Debbie Barr; a brother-in-law, George Lechner; and a sister-in-law, Donna Hatch.
Mr. Hatch was a member of Mount Carmel Catholic Church.
He was a 1955 graduate of Altoona Catholic High School and received his master’s degree from Penn State University. Dick retired after 31 years from Penn State Altoona as a history teacher and administrator.
Dick enjoyed the outdoors, fishing with friends and family, watching Notre Dame & Penn State Football, and cooking for his family. He was especially famous for his chop suey and veal. In his later years, he enjoyed building bird houses and painting.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m., Wednesday, January 26, 2022, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, Altoona.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Family Hospice and Palliative Care, 20 Sheraton Drive, Altoona, PA 16601 or Central PA Humane Society, 1837 East Pleasant Valley Blvd, Altoona, PA 16602.
