Richard Lewis Helsel, 86 of Altoona died early Friday morning December 4, 2020 at UPMC Altoona.
He was born September 22, 1934 in Allegheny Township a son of the late George Henry and Olive May (Brubaker) Helsel. He married Barbara Jane Fink on April 11, 1959 in Winchester, VA. She preceded him in death January 10, 2013.
Surviving are two children, daughter Helen M. Helsel of Duncansville and son Charles C. “Chip” Helsel (Jennifer) of Roaring Spring; three grandchildren, Nick Helsel; Laura Helsel (fiancé Tim Wolchko); Lindsey Helsel; a sister, Leda Hoffman of Altoona; and numerous extended family members.
Richard was preceded in death by siblings, Lavada Stevens, Marie Kaufman and Carl Helsel.
He was a 1952 graduate of Hollidaysburg High School.
Richard was a U. S. Air Force veteran attaining the rank of Airman First Class.
He retired as a pressman from Butterick-Vogue in 1993 following 27 years’ service and had also been employed at various times as a professional truck driver.
He enjoyed fixing just about anything and also enjoyed bowling, woodworking and driving tractor trailers.
Richard was a member of the Bavarian Aid Society.
At the request of the deceased, there will be no viewing or funeral service.
