Robert Ewing “Bob” Findley, 91 of Altoona died early Saturday morning March 21, 2020 at Elmcroft of Altoona.
He was born July 8, 1928 in Altoona a son of the late William Ewing and Margaret Ruth (Klepser) Findley. He married Audrey Irene Irvin on June 29, 1957 at Third Presbyterian Church, Altoona. She preceded him in death October 25, 2013. Surviving are two children, son Harold E. Findley and his wife Julie of Altoona; daughter Elizabeth I. Siglow of Altoona; seven grandchildren, Jason Hendricks (Chrissy), Layla Hendricks, Megan Prisk (Tyler), Elizabeth Franks (Jared), Rachel Dean, Michael Findley (Briana) and Ben Siglow; and five great grandchildren, Ethan Franks, Killian Hendricks, Eleanor Franks, James Franks and Nehemiah Findley.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Polly Endress.
Mr. Findley was a member of the former Third Presbyterian Church, Altoona where he had been a deacon and an elder.
Bob was a 1946 graduate of Hollidaysburg Area High School and a 1950 graduate of Grove City College with a Bachelor of Science degree.
He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Korean War with the 118th Medical Battalion, 43rd Division where he attained the rank of Technical Corporal.
He retired from the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare in 2001 following 50 years’ service.
He enjoyed automobiles; checkers; crossword puzzles; computers; classical music; bowling; politics, WWII history and spending time with his family.
Bob was a member of the Hollidaysburg American Legion.
A memorial service and gathering will be held in the near future, details of which will appear in a future edition of the Altoona Mirror.
