Robert D. “Bob” Johnson, 75, of Altoona died Sunday afternoon January 23, 2022, at UPMC Altoona.
He was born November 18, 1946, in Altoona, a son of the late Robert, Sr. and Esther (Coder) Johnson. He married Kathy L. Mellinger on February 17, 1995, in Winchester, WV.
Surviving is his wife of 26 years, Kathy; a daughter, Megan Johnson, of Pittsburgh; and six siblings, Melodee Seasoltz, Evie Moyer, Debbie Steplowski, Mildred Kline, Tim Johnson, and Charles Johnson.
He was preceded in death by two siblings, Rick Johnson and Peggy Johnson.
Mr. Johnson was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Altoona.
Bob was a 1964 graduate of Altoona High School and went on to receive his bachelor’s degree from Penn State University and his master’s degree from Saint Francis University.
He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict era. He was very proud to serve with the 28th Infantry Division Band for the Pennsylvania National Guard where he played the clarinet.
He retired as a partner from Moses and Johnson Certified Public Accountants and following became an Authorized Lay Worship Leader for the Allegheny Lutheran Synod.
Bob was proud to have been elected to serve on the Altoona City Council for four years and to be employed as an Adjunct Professor at Penn State University.
He was a member of the Hollidaysburg Lodge #220, F. & A.M.; the Valley of Altoona, A.A.S.R. bodies; Jaffa Shrine where he was a member of the Calliope Clown unit where he was known as “Strings”, and he was also a member of the Jaffa Shrine Legion of Honor.
He was a member of the Cesare Battisti Club, the Bavarian Aid Society, and the Unter Uns Society, and the Riggles Gap Sportsman Club.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held March 5 at 12:00pm at Trinity Lutheran Church.
