            Robert R. “Bob” Akins, 64, Altoona, died early Thursday January 7, 2021 at UPMC Altoona, following an extended illness.

            He was born July 24, 1956 in Akron, Ohio, son of the late Robert Edward and Dorothy Margaret (Rabold) Akins. He married Donna Leah Wertz on June 10, 1978, at Otterbein United Methodist Church, Juniata, Altoona.

            Surviving are his wife, Donna; two children: twins, Alissa A. Akins of Brooklyn, N.Y. and Robert R. Akins II (Rachael Latini) of Idlewylde, Md.; a granddaughter, Olivia Akins of Idlewylde, Md.; two sisters: Janet Dollar (Wilfred “Husky”) of Altoona and Deb Lingenfelter (Russell) of Milton, W.Va.; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

            Bob was a 1974 graduate of Altoona Area High School. He retired as the owner/operator of My Electrician Electrical Contractors following over 30 years of service. He was the youngest person in Altoona to receive his Master Electrician designation at age 16. He then went on to become licensed not only in Pennsylvania, but also in Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia. Prior to starting his own business, Bob oversaw the electrical construction of the National Holocaust Museum in Washington, D.C. Bob was very passionate about aviation and achieved getting his private pilot’s license. He was a regular pilot at the Bay Bridge Airport on Kent Island, MD. Bob also enjoyed crabbing on the Chesapeake Bay while living at his former residence on Kent Island. He loved spending every summer fishing and boating on the St. Lawrence River at the Thousand Islands, Canada. His cabin on this river on one of the islands was his favorite place in the world, where he would often host barbecues with his friends and family.

            Mr. Akins attended First Church of Christ, Altoona. He was a member of Annapolis Lodge No. 89, A. F. & A. M., Annapolis, Md.

            A private viewing and funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family with Pastor John Collins officiating with interment to following at Grandview Cemetery, Altoona Arrangements are by Myers-Somers Funeral Home Inc., 501 Sixth Ave., Altoona.

            In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations please be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, P.O. Box 863765, Orlando, FL 32886.
