Shirley Romayne Markel-Bittner, 86, Altoona, passed away at UPMC Altoona on Sunday, June 20, 2021.
She was born September 14, 1934, in Hollidaysburg RD, the daughter of the late Verna Margaret Weierick and Robert Henry Markel Sr. She was the wife of the late Kenneth Leroy Bittner Sr.
Surviving are her children: Kenneth Bittner Jr. and wife, Melanie, of Frederick, Md., and Timothy Bittner Sr. and wife, Penny, and Donna Bittner-Banks and husband, Clarence, all of Altoona; 10 grandchildren: Stephanie Bittner, Timothy Bittner Jr., Heather Grace, Deanna Grace, Justin Bittner, Jona Bittner, Marlena Pendleton, Mychal Pendleton Sr., Tanisha Thompkins and Tanika Miller-Bittner; 16 great-grandchildren: Olivia Bittner, Vivianna Bittner, Austin Bittner, Keionna Bittner, Bryson Bittner, Kyra Grace, Trent Biosvert, Kane Watt, Raiden Watt, Jude Watt, Mychal Pendleton Jr., Malayna Pendleton, Maddex Pendleton, Victoria Matthews, Seth Matthews and Benny Evans.
Mrs. Bittner was a member of Juniata Presbyterian Church. She was very active in local Republican politics and a dedicated Republican Committeeperson.
Shirley enjoyed reading, painting, gardening, watching the news and taking car trips through Canoe Creek.
Friends will be received from 3 to 6 p.m. Friday, June 25, 2021, at Myers-Somers Funeral Home, Inc., 501 Sixth Avenue, Altoona, where a funeral service will be held at 6 p.m. with Pastor Kenneth Beichler officiating. Interment will be made at Blair Memorial Park, Bellwood.
