Stanley J. "Jake" Nevel

Stanley J. “Jake” Nevel, 87, of Altoona, passed away Wednesday, August 4, 2021, at Conemaugh Nason Medical Center, Roaring Spring.

He was born June 5, 1934, in Altoona, a son of the late James Arthur and Marilla Elizabeth (Rudasill) Nevel. He married Mary E. Friley on September 18, 1953.

Surviving is his wife of 67 years; three children: Debra K. Walker and husband, Tom, of Spring Mills, and Marvin J. Nevel and wife, Lee, and Patty J. Nevel and fiancé, Fred Swartz, all of Altoona; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a sister, Myra Simmers of Altoona; and two brothers: Paul Nevel (Betty) of Altoona and Thomas Nevel (Linda Jernigan) of Tennessee.

Mr. Nevel attended New Life Community Church. Stanley graduated from Altoona High School in 1953. He worked for the PRR; Sylvania and Carol Cable, where he was a machine attendant; and as a janitor at First Church of Christ.

Jake enjoyed trains, tinkering on machinery, and his dogs, Ruby and Katie.

            Friends will be received from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, August 7, 2021, at Myers-Somers Funeral Home, Inc., 501 Sixth Avenue, Altoona, where a funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., the Rev. Terry Farr officiating.

Interment will be made at Blair Memorial Park, Bellwood.
