Susan E. “Sue” Pry, 78 of Altoona died Friday afternoon March 17, 2023, at her residence surrounded by her loving family.

She was born March 9, 1945 in Altoona a daughter of the late William L. and Mary E. (Irwin) Harshbarger. She married Edgar H. Pry on May 14, 1964 in Altoona. He preceded her in death February 22, 2011.

Surviving are two children, daughter Christine L. Murray (Donald) of Camden, NC, son Edgar H. Pry, Jr. (Jamie Szwed) of Williamsport; five grandchildren, Matthew Vicars, Lauryn Rouse (Sean), Maverick Vicars (Alyssa), Hannah Pry, and Sydney Pry; seven great grandchildren, Jaxon, Pierson, Kinsley, Baylor, Holden, Sawyer, and Johanna “Joey”; two sisters, Sylvia Boyles of Altoona, and Shirley Merritts of Martinsburg; sister-in-law Edie Frederick (John) of Altoona; brother-in-law Jim Pry (Kathy) of Louisiana; and numerous extended family members.

Mrs. Pry was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, Altoona.

She was a 1963 graduate of Altoona High School.

Sue retired as a special education aid for the Altoona Area School District. Previously, she had been employed for many years as a cashier at Tom’s Riverside, Altoona.

She enjoyed quilting, crafting, and following her nephew’s football career at both Virginia Tech and Penn State. She especially enjoyed spending many, many days at “The Driftwood” the family cottage along the Juniata River. Sue was a member of the Bethany Lutheran Quilting Guild.

A future memorial service is planned to be held at Blair Memorial Park, Bellwood with Rev. Drew McCaffery officiating.

The family would like to thank a special friend, Shelley, who cared for both parents during their end days struggling with cancer. Also, many thanks to Edie and John who took care of Sue since the time of Edgar’s passing.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorial donations please be made to Paws of War, 127 Nesconset, NY 11767 or pawsofwar.org or https://pawsofwar.org/donate-today. "Paws of War” unites rescued dogs with veterans and first responders at no charge, a fitting combination of Sue's love of dogs and Ed's passion for veteran's interests.
