Thelma J. Longenecker, 96, of Altoona, died peacefully at her home on Wednesday, April 21, 2021.
She was born in Roaring Spring on January 26, 1925, the daughter of the late Albert H. and Thelma J. (Showalter) Showalter. On November 9, 1946, she married Harry G. Longenecker in New Enterprise, and he preceded her in death on December 8, 2003.
Surviving are her daughter, Cheryl L. Naughton and husband, Paul F., of Vienna, Va.; three step grandchildren; and two step great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her son, Larry W. Longenecker; a brother, Clair Showalter; and two sisters: Vera C. Rogers and Arlene Litzenberger.
Mrs. Longenecker was a 1943 graduate of Morrison Cove High School. Prior to her marriage and during WWII, Thelma worked for Sylvania.
She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church where she a member of “The Quilters” group.
Thelma enjoyed working in her flower garden, making crafts, crocheting, and sewing.
Friends will be received from 4 until the 7 p.m. funeral service Monday, April 26, 2021, at Myers-Somers Funeral Home, Inc., 501 Sixth Avenue, Altoona, the Rev. Drew McCaffery officiating. Interment Fairview Cemetery, Martinsburg.
