Velma Jean Chaplin, 90 of Altoona died Saturday evening June 10, 2023, at Maybrook Hills Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center, Altoona.
She was born June 19, 1932, in Altoona. She married Joseph Leroy Chaplin who preceded her in death in November 1963.
Surviving are three sons, Ronald P. Leach (Mona Lee), Thomas C. Chaplin (Kelly), and Gerald W. Chaplin (Tracy) all of Altoona; twelve grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; two brothers, Victor Harshbarger, and Kenneth Williamson; daughter-in-law, Dena Chaplin; and numerous extended family members.
Jean was preceded in death by two daughters, Vicki Lee Leach, and Nancy Carolyn Lynn; a son, Joseph H. Chaplin; two sisters, Kaye Judd, and Sandy Lee Harshbarger; two brothers, Wayne Harshbarger, and Richard Williamson; a special friend, Royden F. McConnell; and her dog, Snowball.
Mrs. Chaplin was formerly employed as a cashier at the VA Canteen / Store and as a server at Downtown Drug.
Jean enjoyed knitting, crocheting, baking cakes and pies, and cooking for her family. She most especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Friends will be received from 4-7 p.m. Thursday June 15, 2023, at Myers-Somers Funeral Home, Inc., 501 Sixth Avenue, Altoona, where a funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m. with Rev. Drew McCaffery officiating.
Interment will be made at Grandview Cemetery, Altoona.
