William H. “Bill” “Buggy” Barnes Jr., 78, of Altoona, died December 11, 2021, at the James E. Van Zandt Medical Center, Altoona.
He was born on April 24, 1943, a son of the late William H. Sr. and Ruby Lorie (Pattillo) Barnes. Bill has shared the past 23 years with his significant other, Carol S. Wholaver.
Surviving along with Carol are two children: Jarrod Patrick of Pittsburgh, Timothy Carter of Altoona; a stepson: Jeff Wholaver; nine grandchildren: Alexis Walker, Tyson Carter, Tate Carter, Abigail Carter, and Logan, Malkin, Haylie, Olivia, and Tyler Wholaver; three siblings: Marcella Madden (James), Rhonda White, and Richard Barnes (Linda); numerous nieces and nephews; and extended family members and friends he held close to his heart.
He was preceded in death by three siblings: Evelyn Hatfield, Sharon Barnes, and Ronald Barnes.
Mr. Barnes graduated Altoona High School in 1961. He then went on to proudly serve in the United States Marines Corps during Vietnam.
He worked as a production lineman for Butterrick for 32 years before he retired. Bill was then employed by the Altoona Area School District as a school bus driver for 32 years until his retirement.
Bill enjoyed camping, fishing, and especially loved spending time with his family and friends. He was a lifetime member of Arandale Elks Lodge, United Veterans Association, James L. Noble Post #3 V.F.W., and the American Legion.
