William McGunigal Obituary

     William J. “Bill” McGunigal, 85, of Altoona, died December 5, 2021, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

     He was born September 15, 1936, in Altoona, a son of the late Orville and Elizabeth (Maillard) McGunigal. On May 2, 1959, he married Connie Jo Thompson at Second Avenue Evangelical United Brethren Church, Altoona.

     Surviving are: his wife, Connie; a daughter, Beth Ann Sassano (Carl); a grandson, Ryen Smith (Sarah); a great grandson, Harrison Smith, all of Altoona; a sister, Pat Garber of Tyrone; and numerous extended family and friends.

     Bill was preceded in death by two sisters, Shirley McLean and Arlene Wagner.

     Bill was a 1955 graduate of Altoona High School.

     He retired as a production operator from SKF Industries in 2000 following 39 years’ service.

     Mr. McGunigal was a life member of both the Bavarian Aid Society and the Heidelberg.

     Bill enjoyed hunting deer and turkey and visiting the family hunting camp. He was also an avid sports fan, he especially enjoyed watching the Pittsburgh Steelers.

     At Bill’s request, there will be no visitation or services.

     Interment will be made at Blair Memorial Park, Bellwood.

     In Lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations please be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959 or to Shriners Hospitals for Children, in care of Jaffa Shrine, P.O. Box 1984, Altoona, PA 16603-1984.
