Obituary

William A. Shover, 93, of Altoona died early Thursday morning June 1, 2023, following a brief illness.

            He was born October 10, 1929, in Altoona, a son of the late Sutherland H. and Anna
I. (Verbonitz) Shover. He married Sandra D. Condo on May 1, 1981.

            Surviving are his beloved wife, Sandra; ten children: William S. Shover (Robin) of Lancaster, Michele A. DeBernardis (Ross) of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL., Cynthia L. Daniels (Dan) of Altoona, Jeffrey Shover (Belinda) of Boca Raton, FL., Brett M. Shover of Altoona, Douglas A. Shover (Lisa) of Claysburg, Patrick E. O’Brien (Jean), Sue E. Walter (Dale), Janette R. Templon (Joel) and Thomas J. O’Brien (Kim) all of Altoona; 27 grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren; a sister, Shirley Good of Tyrone; and numerous extended family.

            William was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and
Harry Shover; his first wife, Florence E. (Kane) Shover.

            Mr. Shover was a member of St. Mark’s Catholic Church, Altoona.

            He was a 1947 graduate of Altoona High School.

 William was employed by Altoona Manufacturing for twenty years before becoming a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service.  He retired in January 1994 following 26 years’ service.

            William had an avid love of baseball, but he enjoyed all sports.  He also enjoyed bowling, Pinochle, Bingo, puzzles, gametime at the Graystone Villa and travelling all over but especially travelling to Florida. Above all else William cherished his time spent with his family.

            Friends will be received from 2-5 pm Tuesday June 6, 2023, at Myers-Somers Funeral Home, Inc., 501 Sixth Avenue, Altoona where a funeral service will be held at 5:00 pm with Rev. Ronald Osinski officiating. Entombment will be made at Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum, Altoona.

            In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations please be made to the East End Youth Baseball League, P.O. Box 289, Altoona, PA 16603.
