William Manning “Bill” Sigmon, III, 72, died early Friday morning August 5, 2022, at Haida Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Hastings.
He born May 8, 1950, in Charlotte, NC a son of the late William Manning Sigmon, Jr. and Mary Louise (Only) Sigmon. He married Jennie L. Stevens on June 28, 1981, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, Altoona.
Surviving are his wife, Jennie; a son William Andrew Sigmon of Martinsburg, WV; and special friend, Evelye, and godson, Thor.
Bill was preceded in death by many aunts and uncles.
Mr. Sigmon was a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, Altoona where he previously served on the Vestry and sang in the choir.
He was a graduate of Charlotte-Mecklenburg High School; the University of North Carolina at Charlotte; and the University of Georgia.
Bill retired as an instructor of Political Science at St. Francis University and Penn State Altoona. He was also formerly employed at The Book Store in Altoona. Bill was featured in “Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.”
He enjoyed reading, history, watching CNN, and was an avid sports fan following the Cincinnati, Cleveland, and Atlanta baseball teams and most especially the University of Georgia, “Georgia Bulldogs”.
A future Celebration of Life is planned to be held at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, Altoona.
