Ann E. Harshbarger, formerly of Altoona, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday while vacationing with her family in the Caribbean.  She was born the daughter of the late Maxine Larson (Paisley) & Richard Nicodemus.  She married James P. Harshbarger on May 10, 1969, in Altoona, and spent 37 wonderful years with him until his death is 2006.

Ann graduated from Altoona High School in 1966 and soon quit work to devote time to her family.  As her children grew, she went back to work and most notably spent 12 years as the Executive Secretary to the long standing Senator Robert C. Jubelirer.  She proudly supported his work during his tenure as President pro tempore of the Pennsylvania State Senate and as the Lieutenant Governor of Pennsylvania.   She retired from the state in 2004 to enjoy more time with her family.

She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer and husband Wayne Schepens of Severna park, MD; her son Scott and wife Lisa Harshbarger of Pittsburgh; 6 beloved grandchildren:  Elizabeth, Nicholas, Meredith, Jacob, Zoey and Piper; several nieces and nephews, and many other loving family and friends.  Ann was preceded in death by her beloved brother Patrick R. Nicodemus and Step Father H. Donald Larson.

Friends will be received from 3-6 p.m. Sunday December 4, 2016 at Myers-Somers Funeral Home, Inc., 501 Sixth Avenue, Altoona where a vigil service for the deceased will be held.

A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday December 5, 2016 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Altoona. Committal rites will be held at Calvary Cemetery, Altoona.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, Blair County Chapter
