Maxine N. Johnson, 85 of Altoona, died Sunday October 16, 2016 at Garvey Manor Nursing Home.

She was born February 22, 1931 in Altoona, a daughter of the late Charles Wenrich and Ruth (Kaufman) Mateer. She married Ted Johnson on April 11, 1981. He preceded her in death on January 14, 1995.

Surviving are her two children, Darlene (Tony) Roscia and Wayne (Tracy) Apple both of Altoona; five grandchildren, Matthew (Meaghan), Shauna (Ryan), Nathan (Kristen), Zachary (Kim), Josh (Erica); and ten great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Janet, a daughter in law, Dianne, a granddaughter, Rebecca, and a step father, Harry Mateer.

Mrs. Johnson was a member of Jaggard United Methodist Church.

She was a 1948 graduate of Altoona High School; and a 1950 graduate of Altoona School of Commerce.

She retired as Medical Assistant after 25 years for Doctor Bill Gibbons.

               Maxine was a member of the Woman Club and a past president of the National Plastic Surgery Administrative Association.

               She was a wonderful seamstress and was self-taught.

               At the request of the family the funeral service will be private.
